Evaluation of the degree to which the impact of stage of Parkinson's disease on Lead Investigator: Kathryn Harris Institution : Roosevelt University E-Mail : kharris24@mail.roosevelt.edu Proposal ID : 537 Proposal Description: The goal of the project is to examine the relationship between severity of motor symptoms, depressive symptoms, and cognitive deficits within a Parkinson's disease population. Given the prominence of nonmotor symptoms of Parkinson's disease coupled with a dearth of current effective treatments targeting many of these symptoms, it is important to continue to bolster the understanding of the ways in which nonmotor symptoms (e.g., cognitive deficits and depression) relate to motor symptoms in Parkinson's disease. These would be used to support the development of integrative treatment interventions targeting nonmotor symptoms of Parkinson???s disease, particularly depressive symptoms and cognitive difficulties. The specific objective is to test the hypothesis that depressive symptomatology mediates the relationship between severity of motoric symptoms of Parkinson's disease and cognitive deficits. Support for this hypothesis would highlight the significance and functional impact of depressive symptomatology in patients with Parkinson's disease.
